The district covered by this rione includes the left bank of the Tiber. The symbol of the ships wheel reminds us of the busy river port that once existed here.
The district extends from Tiber Island .......
.....to the Aventine Hill where you can peep through the keyhole for a great view of St Peter's dome and marvel in the fact that you are seeing three countries here, Italy, Malta & Vatican City.
The area also includes the Forum Boarium where you can see the oldest marble temple still standing.
Our 'Rione Refreshment' tip is Tiberino on Tiber Island. Here you can get food and drinks all day but I think the best time to go is aperitivo hour when you can watch the sun going down over the river.
