Romeward Bound

After picking up provisions at the local bakery we hopped on the vaporetto to Santa Lucia railway station for our train to Rome.
The four hour journey passed quickly and we arrived at Termini to blue skies and warmth. We picked up our new e-Roma cards which we had ordered online & topped up with weekly tickets then took the metro to Spagna.
Our apartment is literally five minutes walk away. It is on the fifth floor and has an elevator - what luxury!
A quick turnaround and we are out again to see the sun set from Ponte Umberto.

Colappichioni is our next port of call where we admire the festive windows before picking up a pangiallo for our Italian Christmas feast back home.

Constantini is looking very jolly & here we stock up on Villa Simone Cesanese wine from their own vineyards

A quick bus trip brings us to Piazza Augusto Imperatore from where we stroll around the Christmas lit streets.

We arrive at Pizzeria Leoncini unfashionably early but are keen to sample our first Roman pizza this trip. It doesn't disappoint - the sausage, bean & red onion topping is delicious

This simple, unpretentious pizzeria is slap bang in the middle of the high end shopping area ( our table overlooked Fendi) but it is so cosy at this time of year with the central pizza oven providing the warmth, even if the waiters are a little frosty!
Our evening ends with a night time view from the apartment.
